In recognition of the Houston Press Music Awards’ anniversary, the publication launched the Houston Music Hall of Fame.  Country legend Gene Watson was among the inaugural class.  Gene said of the honor. “It’s a great, personal honor to be inducted into the first ever class in the Houston Music Hall of Fame,” he said. “I’m so proud to live in Houston and the great state of Texas and to be elected into the very first group in the Houston Music Hall of Fame is very humbling. I worked all day in the body shops and performed all night at the many, great clubs in Houston and that’s how I was discovered and got my start in the music business. I’m so grateful to everyone who made this honor possible. I didn’t get a lot of awards from Nashville in my younger days but receiving this honor at this time in my career, well, it’s just all the sweeter.”
