Alan Jackson making his debut on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart at the top. Billboard.com says the country star’s latest release, “The Bluegrass Album,” is entering the list at number one with first-week sales of 22-thousand. It’s the first time Jackson has ever had an album on this chart. The disc also marks Jackson’s 18th top five debut on the Country Albums list.

With “The Bluegrass Album” Jackson joins an elite group of country stars ┬áto launch an album at number one on the Bluegrass Albums chart. Merle Haggard was the first, accomplishing the feat in 2007 with “The Bluegrass Sessions.” Patty Loveless’ “Mountain Soul 2” topped the Bluegrass chart in 2009.
