Country band Alabama returns with their third Christian album “Angels Among Us: Hymns and Gospel Favorites” on September 30. This album finds Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook celebrate their love for gospel music as they give their unique renditions to hymns such as “Church in the Wildwood,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” And as an added bonus, the set will feature an all-new recording of their hit “Angels Among Us.” Alabama is easily one of country music’s most famous band. Over their lengthy career which started with their debut album in 1976, they have released 65 singles where 33 of them hit #1 on the country chart. They were one of the earliest acts to have a #1 song to chart for multiple weeks when “Jukebox in My Mind” spent 4 consecutive weeks at #1 in 1990. And they were one of the few acts to be honored by a tribute album which finds Kenny Chesney, Trisha Yearwood, Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean among others tipping their hats to them last year. In 2006 Alabama released their first Christian album “Songs of Inspiration,” the album finds them revisiting of the old hymns of the church (including “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden”) and 2 Randy Owen originals. The album not only was a #1 album on Billboard’s Country album chart, it also reached the pinnacle of Billboard’s Christian album chart. This was later followed by a Dove Award nomination for Best Country Gospel album. They quickly followed up such success with the second installation a year later with “Songs of Inspiration Vol. II.” Again success was replicated with a #1 Christian album nod and a #3 Country album spot followed by another Dove Award nomination.
