NBC has set a premiere date for its TV movie based on the life of Dolly Parton. “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” will air on the network on December 10th — just a week after its other holiday special “The Wiz Live!” The film started production in Atlanta this week, with child actor Alyvia Lind in the role of young Dolly. Country singer Jennifer Nettles will also play Dolly’s mother. It’s set during the star’s childhood in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains during the 50s.

The original coat is now on display in Parton’s Chasing Rainbows Museum at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.

NBC’s deal with Parton, includes a series of standalone TV movies based on Parton’s songs, stories and life. They will contain music but won’t be musicals, with Parton possibly appearing in some. Parton is developing the projects with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
