  • 1929 - June Carter is born in Maces Spring, Virginia, to Ezra and Mother Maybelle Carter, of The Carter Family. June co-writes Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire" and later marries Cash, earning duet hits with him on "Jackson" and "If I Were A Carpenter"


  • 1952 - Decca releases Kitty Wells' "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels"


  • 1956 - Ray Price spends the first of 20 weeks at #1 in Billboard magazine with "Crazy Arms"


  • 1993 - Brooks & Dunn go triple-platinum with their "Brand New Man" album, becoming the first duo in country music history to have an album ship 3 million units


  • 2007 - Tracy Lawrence collects a #1 single in Billboard for the first time in 11 years with "Find Out Who Your Friends Are"


  • 1962 - Ray Charles' album "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music" hit number one on the chart, beginning a 14 week stay at the top.


  • 1965 - Willie Nelson was among the guests on the TV show "Shindig!" Others appearing on the show included The Byrds, The Kingsmen, and Billy Preston.


  • 1979 - The Charlie Daniels Band released "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
