  • 1957 - Pam Tillis born in Plant City, Florida. The daughter of country singer Mel Tillis, she fashions a career of her own with a series of hits in the 1990s, winning the Country Music Association's female vocalist in 1994 and joining the Grand Ole Opry in 2000

     

  • 1980 - Ten days after it went gold, the "Urban Cowboy" soundtrack is certified platinum. It features Anne Murray, Kenny Rogers, The Eagles, Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilley, Linda Ronstadt & J.D. Souther, Jimmy Buffett and The Charlie Daniels Band, among others

     

  • 2003 - Johnny Cash picks up six nominations in the MTV Video Music Awards, for his remake of Nine Inch Nails' song "Hurt"

     

  • 1982 - Alabama topped the "Billboard" singles chart with "Take Me Down."

     

  • 1985 - Kenny Rogers was named the first winner of the Roy Acuff Humanitarian Award by the Country Music Foundation.

     

  • 1990 - Kathy Mattea's "Willow In The Wind" album was certified Gold.

     

  • 1991 - Randy Travis' album "Heroes And Friends" was certified Platinum.

     

  • 1948 - Opry legend Roy Acuff announced his intent to run for governor of Tennessee. When he made his bid for office against the incumbent, he lost. He also launched two other unsuccessful campaigns for the job.
